Peppara

Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary is popular for its wildlife, including elephant, gaur, sambar, barking deer, and wild boar. Peppara Dam offers you a gorgeous view of the entire valley and is a charming picnic spot.

If you like trekking, Peppara offers one of the best trails – the 5km trek to Vazhvanthol Falls. The trail begins in Kaanithara, near Vithura. You should book this one-day guided trek in advance.

Ponmudi

The road to Ponmudi is a winding one, with spectacular views of the mist-covered slopes. You will find an abundance of rare flowers, plants and animals around here. Look out for mountain flowers, wild orchids and exotic butterflies.

Ponmudi has many trekking trails, the most popular being the 18km trek to Varayadumotta, which offers a panoramic view of the mountains.

Kallar / Golden Valley

Kallar gets its name from the picturesque Kallar River, and is popular as a picnic spot, and also for trekking, angling and bird watching.

The beautiful Meenmutty Waterfalls is close by, and is open to visitors from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. Near Kallar is the picturesque Golden Valley, which is very popular among nature enthusiasts for its golden sand, green valley and crystal clear water.

Vazhvanthol Waterfalls

Vazhvanthol Waterfalls is a seasonal waterfall in the western ghats near Kerala and Tamil Nadu border. If you have Ponmudi, a hill station near Agasthiyamalai in your itinerary, you can easily cover this place. The trekking to waterfalls is permitted only from 9.00 AM to 1.00 PM. They allow people only in batches with forest guide. You will find this trekking an amazing experience and can spot snakes, leeches and other small wild animals. The breeze from Agasthiyamalai will be refreshing.

Agasthyakoodam

Agasthyakoodam is nature’s ode to bird watchers. One of the highest peaks in Kerala, it has long been known as a bird watcher’s paradise and many gather here to catch sight of exotic avian species. It can be viewed from near Neyyar Dam as well as Bonacaud. Agasthyakoodam is also known for its remarkable flora and fauna, especially certain rare medicinal herbs which have been discovered here. Over 2000 species including lichens, orchids, mosses and ferns have been recorded in the area.
